Part 1 – looking back
This is all so true, Felicity, and as you say most people have no idea, and think it doesn't affect them.
Well done for writing such an informative post - I just hope lots of people will read it!
Thank you Angie. When I go out with my local walking group I am always amazed by my friends’ ignorance about rural matters.
So thought provoking.
Thank you Hayley. It’s easy to look at the land and think it’s always been that way, but we humans have been reshaping it for millennia.
Yes definitely. Have you read the book called Regeneration? I found it fascinating.
It's been / continues to be extensively quarried here.
Do you mean Andrew Painting’s book about Mar Lodge? Yes, and I’ve met him and fellow rangers on a tour of the estate.
Yes that's the one. Very interesting! ☺️
An insightful piece - thank you, Felicity!
Thanks Julia, good to see you back on here
When I was living in Britain someone remarked how the Isles were managed to be a safe place for sheep. Your article shows how true that is.
We don't have any predators to bother adult sheep in the UK (no wolves, bears, mountain lions etc.) and on the hills they are left to their own devices, only gathered for shearing, selecting animals to go to market and similar purposes.
Thanks for the restacks.
