Walking through 5,600 years of history

Kilmartin Glen in Argyll on Scotland's mild west coast

Last April I revisited one of my favourite places to research a walk for a guidebook I was writing – Outstanding Walks Scotland. While making notes and taking photos to illustrate this glossy volume, I also shot some video clips. These languished on my hard drive until last month, when I quickly put them together for a talk to a local camera club, which I wrote about in the post The challenge of entertaining while being honest.

I included this video at the end of that post, but I don’t think many people looked at it (perhaps because it has a black rather than illustrated start screen – evidence that I’m a pretty amateur videographer!). So I’m cheating a bit in posting it as a stand alone video post today. However, needs must, as I’ve run out of time if I’m to keep to my weekly Saturday schedule.

If you like the look of Kilmartin Glen and live too far away to visit, you can indulge in more images of it and absorb some of its atmosphere from the account by

of her visit there last week: On Kilmartin Glen and connections.

Tomorrow I’m travelling north to check some walks to see if updates are needed to a guidebook I wrote three years ago – Pathfinder North Coast 500 and Northern Highlands. This week I’ve been packing and clearing the decks of other work so I can leave my cares (and partner!) behind. (I did suggest he join me, but he’s too involved with other things to get away).

So long as I can get a decent mobile signal I’ll keep Our Natural Place newsletters going while I’m away and may share some of the scenery in Substack Notes. I hope during quiet evenings I’ll also be able to catch up with the enjoyable, challenging and intriguing writing on here. See you soon.

Thanks for reading Our Natural Place with Felicity Martin! This post is public so feel free to share it.
